People

We bring a diversity of experience from our individual research trajectories and geographical locations. The coming together of such diversity has produced a rich ecology of approaches and practices that define how we produce knowledge of and with microbes.

Our people

We are a diverse group of social scientists with passion for microbes and questions of social justice. Inspired by Science and Technology Studies as well as Feminist Theory, our work experiments novel ways of producing knowledge with and about microbes.

Join us

The CSSM offers opportunities for participation and collaboration. There are calls multiple times per year for visiting fellows, an artist residency, and international seminars. One can also participate in our Helsinki-based workshops, seminars, and PhD schools. If you are based in Helsinki, to join the Centre, just come to one of our events, get to know us, and get engaged in microbes and more!

How to get connected

Mailing list

By signing up to the CSSM mailing list, you will receive email updates about microbe-related activities organised by the CSSM and others in our network.

Network channel on Slack

If you want to engage with the CSSM even more actively, you are welcome to join our network channel on Slack. It is a place where CSSM members, collaborators, friends, and others interested in our work can connect, get to know each other’s work, discuss relevant topics, and spin ideas.

Activities

We want CSSM to be a hub where social scientists interested in microbes can encounter each other but, most of all, we want those encounters to be productive. To achieve this, we have designed a series of activities that can be organised by anyone and where anyone can participate, no matter where they are in the world. Becoming a part of the CSSM is as easy as participating or contributing to any of our activities.
